Earth Hour
by Marisa Rafal

The first year Earth Hour took place in Sydney, Australia. Everyone in
unison turned off their lights for one hour. They were just one city, but
because they united to support that one cause, and turned off all of their
lights for just one hour they saved enough energy to power 48,216 cars
for a whole entire 60 minutes (one hour). But honestly, why take a car
when you can walk/bike and get the exercise? Either way they saved A
TON of energy and that was just one city; imagine what we can do all
together!
This year it will take place on March 28th at 8:30 pm. It may not seem like
you can make that much of a difference, but the truth is, you can. Also,
Somerville won’t be the only place taking part this year, 62 other cities
have announced that they are joining to the WWF (the group that runs it)
including: Dubai, Warsaw, London, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Amsterdam,
Cape Town, Los Angeles, Rome and Beijing, and many, many more
