Interview With Ms.Doherty and Ms. Arrmata

Today, February 25th, we (Lucy Coombs and Marisa Rafal)
interviewed two amazing people, named Ms. Doherty and Ms.
Armata.
Ms. Doherty is a teacher, but not just any teacher, she is a
special education teacher to 3 grades at once! Consisting of first,
second and third graders. “It keeps me busy” she said with a
smile. She said teaching one grade wouldn’t be as much of a
challenge. Plus, she enjoys really getting to know the children
and their families. When they come back to her the second year
she knows exactly what level they are at, who their guardians are
and so on.
On top of that, she loves being able to see the children’s
progress. When they first come to her they are in first grade and
they do not know how to read yet. But she loves to watch them
become stronger and stronger readers and mathematicians.
When we asked her what the hardest thing for her was when she
was learning how to be a teacher she said that she enjoyed
everything. It was an all girls school so there weren’t many…
Distractions. Plus it was a very small school at the time there were
120 graduates and only 80 of those young adults were studying
education (how to educate).
She also said that the person who inspired her was a teacher at
her school who looked like she had so much fun on the job, she
figured getting paid to have fun sounded nice.  She says too, that
it’s one of the best jobs she ever had, she wakes up in the
morning and doesn’t feel like grumbling about it, but is excited.
She also says she couldn’t do it without Ms. Armata.
Ms. Armata is a para-professional teacher who has worked with
Ms.Doherty for 2 years. She also enjoys working with children and
likes to make a big impact on them. She lives in Somerville and at
an interview they suggested that she work here. One of her
favorite things is how interesting and entertaining it is to watch the
children’s reactions. When she was learning to teach the hardest
thing for her was passing the MTEL’s. It is her second year
teaching here and she says it has been her best two years of her
teaching career. She also says that working at the Healey School
and with the other teachers is fun and comforting.  Yay!
Jeans wanted!                                     by Katie
A lot of people wear jeans. And, a lot of people mess up and rip
their jeans. And, before you go to throw away those old jeans,
think if someone could use those screwed up jeans. Someone
like, the Healey School Newspaper Club.  So, please if you have
any messed-up jeans. Give them to us!
THE ADVENTURES OF US AND THE
CEREAL FIGHT
By Naomi Rafal

The cereal was just sitting there innocently, well maybe Maya was
holding them but Simon came over and grabbed it. Katie spotted
him and yelled, Simon's eyes widened and he screamed like a girl.
The girls started chasing him and he started running, screaming
all the while. As Simon came around the corner I came and stood
right in the middle of his path he was corned since the other girls
were right on his heels. He ran in the direction of the trash can
and I chased him there he tripped just as he got there and Katie
grabbed the cereal. The fight was done and Maya, Katie and
Simon were told to right a 100 word apology. And then I was told I
should right an observational on the cereal fight, and the itty-bitty
part I played in it myself.

name = Maya
comments = Cereal Peace Treaty

Problem: In newspaper club we all wanted some Golden grahams
cereal. So I started running around with the box then Katie M.
started chasing me. Then Simon took it from me and started
running around. Then Naomi was chasing him and accidentally
tackled Simon who then fell.
Who solved it:  Alan came over saying “hey, hey!!!” then we all
stopped dead. Alan said we each had to write 100 words on how
we will share it in the future. So here I am stuck writing a peace
treaty.

The Treaty itself
We here by agree that there will be no more fighting or tackling
over any future food we will get to eat. ( Probably not going to
happen.) But we will try our hardest.
  Sincerely signed,
Maya L.S.        Katie M.    Simon S.D.     Naomi R.

Dragon Naturally Speaking
by Maya Lubeck-Schricker

My dad works for Dragon Naturally
Speaking. He goes through them all and
makes sure they work. I have been
bugging him for years asking him to bring
home one of them to use.
It is a microphone that you install to your
computer and you talk into it to type use a
mouse (without really moving a finger) and
more. Some things you can say is the
words you want to type and if it types
wrong you can say “correct that” and
there will be different choices you can say.
If what you want is not there you say “spell
that” and you say the letters. If you want
to go online you say “open web.” It is
really cool and when I finally got it I tried it
out and I almost fell asleep from not
working. It is totally awesome!!!!!
